Veronica Williams was elected to the Carlsbad Unified School District Board of Trustees in 2010. Born in San Diego, Veronica and her husband have lived in Carlsbad since 2000 and have two young boys. She received her degree in Mathematics with an emphasis in Computer Science. She is a small business owner developing online solutions for private and public entities. In the fall of 2012, she received her certification in the California School Boards Association Masters in Governance program. Ms. William's two sons attend a CUSD elementary school. Her priorities for CUSD are: To develop and prepare our students for the 21st century workplace, improve student achievement, outcomes, and graduation rate, and teach students to become lifelong learners in a safe and healthy environment. Besides Ms. William's passion for education and technology, she is an avid sportsman – trail runner, adventure racer, soccer player and flying trapeze artist.

Claudine JonesClaudine Jones, Vice President - Email / Trustee Area 4

Mrs. Claudine Jones has lived in Carlsbad for over a decade with her husband and two young children. She received her BS from Michigan State University. She also completed her CASBO certification from University of Southern California. She was appointed to the Board of Trustees in September 2013, and her current term runs through December 2022. Before moving to Carlsbad, Mrs. Jones was a corporate merchandiser for Gap, Inc., and a web producer in the Yahoo Shopping division. Although she continues to work in the financial field, she is a full-time volunteer, supporting her children’s education.  Mrs. Jones serves on the Carlsbad Unified Council PTA Board, Valley Middle School PTA Board, the Carlsbad Educational Foundation Grant Writing Collaborative, and takes annual trips to Sacramento to advocate on behalf of public schools.  She is also a board member of the League of Women Voters of North County San Diego. She enjoys spending time with children in the classrooms, tutoring, coaching students and teachers on technology, and monitoring students on campus.  In her spare time, she trains for half-marathons, reads, and bakes.

Elisa WilliamsonElisa Williamson, Clerk - Email / Trustee Area 2

Mrs. Elisa Williamson, a 30-year Carlsbad resident, has served on the Board of Trustees since April 2000. Her two children both graduated from CUSD; one teaches high school English and the other majored in Asian Studies and tutors at a K-8 STEM enrichment program. She has served as Board President or Vice President for 8 years.  While serving on the Board, she spearheaded the development of a Governance Handbook, District Vision Statement, and the Continuous Improvement process. She was the co-chair of the Prop P bond campaign and has sat on numerous committees, include Strategic Planning, GATE, Superintendent selection and Graduate Profile. She received "Masters in Governance" certification through the California School Boards Association. Ms. Williamson earned a Master's Degree in Business Education from Brigham Young University and worked for several years as a communications specialist and part-time teacher. She just completed two years of facilitating a weekly student gathering to prepare adults for college success. She is currently the Director of Marketing for a Registered Investment Advisor. 

Ray PearsonRay Pearson, Member - Email / Trustee Area 3

Mr. Ray Pearson was elected to the Carlsbad Unified School District Board of Trustees in 2014. Born and raised in Southern California, Ray attended California public schools and received a B.S. from California State University, Los Angeles. Ray is married and has three adult children, with his youngest graduating from Carlsbad High School. He has a 30+ year business career working for companies in the science, technology, engineering, and math industries. Ray has over 40 years of community involvement with the YMCA, Boys & Girls Club, Carlsbad Charitable Foundation, Rotary Club, North Coastal Prevention Coalition, City of Carlsbad Senior Commission, Mitchell Thorp Foundation, CHS Baccalaureate Committee, Proposition P Oversight Committee, Parent Association Board, and CHS School Site Council.  He acts as a judge for the CHS Speech and Debate tournaments, and recruits community members to serve as speech and debate judges. Ray is committed to ensuring a bright future for all children and our community. His goal is to direct more dollars in the classroom without placing more of a burden on Carlsbad taxpayers. In his spare time he surfs, swims, plays tennis and enjoys traveling with his wife.

KathyKathy Rallings, Member - Email / Trustee Area 5

Kathy Rallings was elected to the Carlsbad Unified School District Board of Trustees in 2014.  She grew up in Huntington Beach, California and is a product of the California public school system.  She received a B.A. in Speech Communications from California State University, Long Beach and an M.A. in Negotiations and Conflict Management from California State University, Dominguez Hills.  She has an adult son who is attending the University of Washington and pursuing a baseball career, and a son who attends elementary school in the district.  She is currently a Health Benefits Specialist, assisting public school districts throughout California to become more knowledgeable purchasers of health care.  Her vision for Carlsbad schools is to create an environment of engagement with parents, teachers and community members to support our students and to prepare them for the future.  In her spare time Kathy enjoys spending time with family, playing tennis, water and snow skiing, and watching her older son play baseball.

2019-20 Student Representatives to the Board

TaylorTaylor Keller - Carlsbad High School

Taylor Keller is a 12th grade student at Carlsbad High School. Taylor feels that his job as Student Board Representative is important because he will be the liaison between the student body of Carlsbad High and the school board. It is important that he is a trusted representative who can work diligently to address school-wide concerns and ultimately resolve them. This year, his class schedule includes The Art and Science of Well Being, AP Economics, Calculus, ASB and English 4. He will also be taking classes at Mira Costa Community College to include Oceanography and Composition and Reading. After high school he plans to attend a four-year university in California to study Business/Economics. His interests, hobbies and affiliations include lacrosse, coaching youth flag football, surfing, traveling, working out, and being active in his school community through ASB.


BelleIsabella Flanegan - Sage Creek High School

Belle Flanegan is a 12th grade student at Sage Creek High School. Belle feels that her job as a Student Board Representative is important because she will be able to embody a bridge between the student population of Sage Creek and the Board of Trustees. This year, her class schedule includes AP Macroeconomics, AP Literature, Pre Calculus Honors, Spanish 3, Theatre 3 and Dance 3 TA. After high school, she plans to attend a four-year university and pursue a degree in business management and a degree in theatre arts with an emphasis in directing. Her interests, hobbies and affiliations includes participating in musicals, being involved with the Sage Creek Theatre Department, North Coast Singers, Student Superintendent Advisory Committee, Genius Project, Girl Scout Gold Award and 2018 CUSD Champions. She is also very passionate about the economic and environmental benefits of reducing food waste.


BodenBoden Haber - CSA/CVA

Boden Haber is a 12th grade student at Carlsbad Seaside Academy. Boden feels that his job as Student Board Representative is important because he believes that including a student perspective into Board deliberations leads to better decisions and better outcomes for the District as a whole. This year, his class schedule includes AP Economics, AP Computer Science, English 4, Speech and Debate and Spanish 3. He will also be taking Calculus 2 and Calculus 3 at Palomar College. After high school he plans to attend a four-year university and major in Computer Science or Computer Engineering and possibly pursue a minor in Business/Economics. His interests, hobbies and affiliations include competing on the Varsity Speech and Debate team in National Extemporaneous and Congress, surfing for the CHS Surf Team, Treasurer of the Palomar College Math Club, Graduate from the Carlsbad Student Leadership Academy, a member of both the National Honor Society and the California Scholarship Federation, and Young Leaders in Healthcare.
